About Us

Philosophy

We are dedicated pet lovers, all animals are respected and well cared for, we consider them members of our own family.

Our goal is to enhance your pets’ life, our time with them is always a pleasant and fun experience. Our caregivers use treats, play and praise when interacting with your pet. We never administer harsh corrections, and will never physically manipulate your pet, they are always treated with patience and respect.

The safety of your pet is also extremely important to us, we maintain careful door opening and leash walking practices. When we open doors, we watch our feet for kitty escape artists. Dogs are requested to sit at each curb before crossing the street. Our well trained caregivers use positive reinforcement to encourage loose leash walking rather than letting them pull or lunge at others.

2% of our net proceeds go to the Seattle Humane Society. 3% of our net proceeds go to Kitty Harbor in West Seattle.

Caregiver Profiles

Jill Seward
Owner and Caregiver

I worked successfully in the corporate environment until January 2008, with every spare moment spent training and spending time with dogs. My hobby became a full time occupation. I have extensive experience with all dog personalities through shelter volunteering. I spent 3 years at PAWS as a kennel attendant, dog walker, advanced training volunteer, and also worked on the canine behavior hotline. I have also volunteered at the Seattle Humane Society as a Dog Behavior and Socialization specialist and web photographer.

My dog family members are 8 year old Suki, adopted at 8 months, and 3 year old Elly, adopted at 8 weeks. We exercise and train daily, they are busy and happy girls who benefit from a structured and active environment. Suki and I have competed in dog agility since 2004, and Elly is preparing to compete. We attend at least 2 classes a week, compete monthly, and also attend the occasional training seminar. Sadly, we recently lost the eldest member of our family, Claire, 17 years old, our very petite gray kitty who ruled the household.

Little Furry Things Caregivers

All Little Furry Things Caregivers are passionate animal people, often with a professional background or small business of their own. We provide ongoing education and training for our carefully selected caregivers. They always provide one on one, thoughtful and caring attention for your pets. They enjoy the challenge of training issues, and can help you maintain the desired behaviors and basic manners you have worked so hard to establish.

Many of our Little Furry Caregivers have vet technician experience and can administer medications such as insulin and saline drips. If they do not have vet experience in their background, they are Red Cross Certified in pet first aid. All of our caregivers complete dog handling skills classes given by local trainers and are trained by myself on a regular basis. All are responsible, contributing members of society, and have passed a security background check. Most important, they are happy to be able to care for your animals, and their enthusiasm is evident. I would trust them with my own girls of course!

Caregiver for Belltown and beyond

I am a long-time pet lover and human companion who gave up my amateur status to turn pro! I have extensive experience with felines and understand the importance of managed care with aging cats. Last year, I lost my own kitty Gimlet (petite orange tabby) to a 2 year battle with cancer, Little Furry Things allows me to channel my excess pet affection to our clients.

Joe V.
Caregiver for Queen Anne and beyond

I have always had pets since my earliest childhood, (that was a long time ago), it was mostly dogs that were mixed breeds except for a boxer. As of the last several years it has been mostly cats of the Siamese (high strung) variety. Then in 2008 I retired from my financial industry job and got the chance to do the things that are fun. First I have always been interested in photography and have spent way too much treasure on the avocation. I opened a small studio and then had an opportunity through Jill to combine it and my love for animals and am able to take photos on walks.

Crystal S.
Caregiver for Renton and beyond

I was lucky enough to have a mom who never objected to the "he just followed me home" excuse and grew up with at least one pet constantly in our house. I started volunteering at a vet clinic at age twelve and didn't leave until I moved to Washington at age twenty three. I am currently in my senior year of graduate school for clinical psychology and have begun my dissertation. I have two cats, a leopard gecko, and have recently adopted a very large mutt puppy from the humane society. I lost my first baby, a Siberian husky, last year after a long fight with cancer. I have experience with all animals but have a particular soft spot for big dogs. I am convinced that the world would be a better place if we all had a tail to wag!

Marissa N.
Caregiver for Capitol Hill and beyond

I love all animals. In my life I have been graced to have lived with cats, dogs and fish and each has amazed me with their intelligence, intuitiveness and sensitivity not to mention their unique personalities. I currently live with one kitty, Sativa, who showed up on my doorstep a few years ago and adopted me. After her arrival I began to notice how many other homeless felines were in my neighborhood and began volunteering at a feral cat spay/neuter clinic, which eventually led to my interest to work more with animals that are not under anesthesia.

Betsy B.
Caregiver for Normandy Park and beyond

When I was growing up, we had beagles, a couple of bassets, two hounds were always around and of course one cat (who somehow put up with the hounds). Dogs have always been special to me and their spirits help us live better, in my humble opinion. Same for cats! After college I chased my wanderlust to sea, where I spent ten years driving ships. Now I am a mom, a video producer and a maritime trainer. We said goodbye to two dogs last winter, our beloved Opus basset of thirteen years and a wonderful rescued greyhound who sadly needed to live in a home without kids. Caring for pets with Little Furry Things is just joyful, I had no idea it would be such a fulfilling endeavor! Thanks to all who allow us to keep your companions safe and happy when you have to leave them behind.

Alexis S.
Caregiver for Maple Leaf and beyond

I have had a love for animals all my life, and have five years of experience in the small animal veterinary field. I worked as a vet assistant, vet technician and a surgery technician at a specialty hospital. I have experience with emergency medicine and have provided in-home animal care for several years. I plan to apply to Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine next fall, and hope to become a small animal veterinarian. I live in Maple Leaf with Luna Bean (chihuahua), Kona (pitbull/boxer mix), and Monkey (domestic short hair).

Testimonials

“Wonderful photos! I was on vacation and it was great to go online and see our babies.”

“We were relieved to find our cat Salem well cared for when we returned from vacation. After checking the blog all week, I was not surprised and knew that she was being spoiled with treats and attention while we were gone. Mindy did a wonderful job. It was nice to see pictures of Salem playing and being silly and I enjoyed reading Mindy's narration of events each day. Salem was very vocal when we got home and I bet she was telling us all about the wonderful time she had with her new pet sitter.”

”We were extremely pleased with the services. Mindy was beyond great with our shy Tobi. We were even able to see photos on the blog because Tobi felt comfortable enough to come out and play! Mindy totally understands how to approach a kitty like Tobi and that's a great comfort to us.”

“We were extremely happy with the high level of service provided and loved receiving the communication on a daily basis. Little Furry Things set the expectation for and do deliver quality pet care. Jill was flexible in working with the unique scenario of our pets/household as well. We have been telling our friends about LFT services and they are impressed as well!”

“Jill was very caring and gentle to my pug. She was very patient with his needs as he is a senior dog. She was very prompt with the email blog, it was ready when I got home from work so that I could hear how his day went while I was not there. When she said I am excited to see him again, she seemed sincere, like she really DID want to see my pug again.”
